Jenny Liu

Artist member since 2022
Vancouver, BC

A contemporary landscape artist, Jenny Liu creates intuitively expressive semi-abstract watercolor and mixed medium paintings. Born in 1962, Jenny currently lives and works in Vancouver, Canada. In 1983, she received her Bachelor of Engineering in Landscape Architecture from Tonji University in Shanghai. From 1983 to 1991, Jenny worked with several multi-discipline design firms and landscape architectural firms in China, Japan and Canada. In 1993 after receiving her Master of Landscape Architecture from University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, she moved back to Vancouver where she practiced landscape architecture. In 2018, after practicing landscape architecture for more than thirty years, Jenny decided to pursue her passion in watercolor painting full time.

Jenny Liu’s artwork reflects her fascination with the mountains of beautiful British Columbia and watercolor medium. Working intuitively, Jenny explores memories, imaginations and emotions in her atmospheric and ethereal semi-abstract style landscape paintings.

Inspired by traditional Chinese ink painting, Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism, Jenny’s paintings are imbued with a timeless, otherworldly quality. The calming atmospheric and meditative images of mountain landscape depicted in Jenny’s paintings show clearly the influence of both Eastern and Western stylistic tradition.

With a softly resonating color palette and the mythical quality, Jenny’s artwork talks to the hearts of the viewer. Through her art, the viewer is invited to feel, fantasize, and create their own stories.
